Abstract

Key Words: Writing skill, Peer Editing Method English is an international language which is very important to be mastered. Writing is one of the four skills that should be learned by the learners in learning English. Writing is one of the linguistic competences realization that is expressed in written language, besides in oral language. There were some difficulties that were found by the student of class VIIIB MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. Students cannot write well because they have limited knowledge in English grammar and vocabulary. It makes them repeat the same mistakes in constructing a sentence. To improve Writing skill, the students should have enthusiasm in learning English and know the correct writing process as well. In teaching writing, we could use the method that could be applied in the class. The method was Peer Editing Method. The teaching writing through the use of a Peer Editing Method motivated students to write with confidence. The statement problem of this research is how can peer editing method improve students’ writing ability at the eighth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in 2014/2015 academic year. This research aimed to know whether the implementation of Peer Editing Method improved students’ writing skill in that school. The subject of this classroom action research was the eighth grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic year of 2014/2015, especially class VIIIB which consisted of 18 students. The research was started on 13rd January, 2015 until 26th January, 2015. This research was conducted in two cycles. There were three research instruments that were used in this research. They were observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of Peer Editing Method could improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. There was an improvement between the first cycle and the second ctycle.It could be seen from the improvement of average of students’ score from 64.39 in cycle I up to 74.28.in cycle II. The questionnaire result showed that students had more knowledge and had better enthusiasm to learn so they became more enjoyful and active during teaching and learning process. Finally, through the result of this research, it was concluded that by implementing Peer Editing Method, the students’ writing skill could be improved. Then, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers to use Peer Editing Method that can be applied in teaching writing in the class.
