Abstract

An enormous risk of tragedy exists in Indonesia. Number of 5,402 catastrophes were reported in Indonesia in 2021 by BNPB. Indonesians require catastrophe education and information on how to avoid them. The public can be informed about a disaster and its effects through the media. Radio is one of them since it is efficient and effective at disseminating knowledge about the dangers and effects of disasters, epidemics, and other types of calamities. RRI responded by airing the television program "Kentongan" as one of the disaster mitigation measures. In order to fulfill their obligations as a disaster response radio, RRI Madiun undertakes disaster journalism, which is the focus of this study. The results of the observation and interview process revealed that RRI Madiun provided disaster information for the Madiun region and its environs through the Kentongan radio program. This program presented in an interactive dialogue with professionals in the field of disaster. To ensure the quality of the news that is reported to the public, RRI Madiun implements broadcasting guidelines from the RRI Head Office that are based on the principles of Disaster Journalism.
