Faculty of Islamic Religion. Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo. Supervisor (I) Dr. Afiful Ikhwan, M.Pd.I, (II) Aldo Redho Syam, M.Pd.I. Keywords: Leadership, Kyai, Personality, Santri. In modern times, which is supported by the existence of today's sophisticated technology, the impact on education, especially Islamic education, is very large if it cannot be controlled properly, especially education that leads to the individual or personality attitude of a Muslim. Islamic boarding schools have existed many years ago as a place for education and the formation of a complete Muslim personality to be one solution to spawn a generation that has a good personality attitude, because in Islamic boarding schools there are kyai figures who have high charismatic and have more religious knowledge, That is why the leadership of a charismatic kyai in Islamic boarding schools is very important in order to maintain and improve Islamic values as a whole. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the process of personality formation and the role of charismatic kyai in Pondok Modern Arrislah Gundik Slahung Ponorogo. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach, while the type of research in this thesis is descriptive. Descriptive qualitative research is a form of research that aims to describe and describe the phenomena that exist in the field using written and spoken words from the behavior and people observed. While the data collection technique in this thesis is through the results of observations, interviews and documentation, while the technique of checking the validity of the data is by increasing persistence, data triangulation and auditing. The results of the research in this thesis can be described that; 1) the efforts of Pondok Modern Arrisalah in shaping the personality of students through three processes, namely; learning, supervision and sanctions, 2) while the leadership role of charismatic kyai in shaping the personality of students is seen from their position as leaders, teachers, policy makers, controllers and advisors, and seen from their roles as uswah hasanah or role models, has a caring attitude that tall and always social.
