Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in policy changes in various sectors in Indonesia, one of which is the education sector. Education in Indonesia changes the policy of face-to-face learning to online learning. To maintain their achievements, students are required to have the ability to manage emotions, one of which is good emotional intelligence and social support from the family is one of the factors that affect children's emotions. This study aims to determine the relationship of emotional intelligence in students during online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic with family social support at SMAN 1 Kawedanan.. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were teenage students totaling 341 respondents. The number of samples in this study 77 respondents taken by purposive random sampling. Data collection was taken by questionnaire. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square test with a significance level of <0.05. The results showed that the emotional intelligence of students at SMAN 1 Kawedanan Magetan during online learning for the time of Covid-19 pandemic was interpreted as 39 respondents (50.6%) having high emotional intelligence and 38 respondents (49.4%) having low emotional intelligence. Meanwhile, the social support of the families of students at SMAN 1 Kawedanan Magetan during online learning for the time of Covid-19 pandemic was interpreted to mean that most of the 41 respondents (53.2%) had high family social support and 36 respondents (46.8%) had low family social support. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence in students during online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic with family social support at SMAN 1 Kawedanan. The results of the study are expected to provide education to the community, especially families, teachers, and students about the importance of emotional balance related to family social support.
