Abstract

Key Words: Team Word Webbing Method, Reading Skill Reading is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us. To master reading, students need to have reading desire and must try to read something intensively and continually. In teaching reading, we can use technique to improve students’ reading ability. The technique is Team word webbing. Team word webbing is a powerful tool in concept development an enchange. This technique could make students enjoyable in class. The statement of problem of this research is “does team word webbing improve students’ reading skill at the eight grade of Mts Muhammadiyah 3 Yanggong Jenangan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2014/2015?”. The purpose of this research is to improve students reading skill by using team word webbing at eight grade of Mts Muhammadiyah 3 Yanggong Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year of 2014/2015. The research was done in Mts Muhammadiyah 3 Yanggong Jenangan Ponorogo started on January 31st until February 11th 2015. The subject of this research was class VIII consisted of 34 students. By using classroom action research, the researcher applied the technique for student of class eight The research was done in two cycles, each cycle consist of 4 meeting. The researcher used three research instruments. There were observation, questionnaire and test. The result of observation checklist the percentage in cycle 1 was 66,66%, but in cycle 2 improved became 91,66%, it showed that the students were doing the task given by the teacher and the students were very active in the class. The questionnaire result proved that students enjoyed and interested during teaching learning process the percentage in cycle 1 72,58%, in cycle 2 up to 89,33%. The result of test showed that in cycle 1 was 44,11% and in cycle 2 the students got the minimum score based on KKM was 100%. It means that the implementation of Team Word Webbing Method can improve students’ reading skill. Finally, using Team Word Webbing Method solve the teaching reading problems and improved students’ reading skill. The researcher suggested that the teacher must have good media in teaching and the teacher must have good would be better to find or create teaching strategy that it can facilitate students to study. To the students, they must study hard in English Lesson and they should practice to use English in daily activities. To the next researcher, this thesis will be useful who will conduct research about the same case in different field of study.
