Abstract

WIDI ROHAYATI: The Effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) Learning Model on the Ability to Understand Mathematical Concepts of Class V MI Plus Badii'usy Syamsi Students. Thesis. Ponorogo: Mathematics Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, 2022. Understanding the concept is a very important aspect in learning. Concepts in mathematics are abstract ideas that allow us to classify (classify) objects or events. By understanding the concept students can develop their skills in the subject. This study aims to examine the effect of problem-based learning model (PBL) on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research is a true experimental research. The population of this study were all students of class V MI Plus Badii'usy Syamsi in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The sample of this research is the experimental class with 11 students and the control class with 12 students selected by random sampling technique. This study used a pretest-posttest control group design. The data of this study were obtained through a description test on the material of fractional arithmetic operations. The data analysis of this research used t-test. The results showed that the sign (1-tailed) obtained was 0.000. This value is smaller than the value = 0.05. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that the increase in the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who take problem-based learning (PBL) is higher than the increase in understanding of mathematical concepts of students who take conventional learning. learning. Thus, the problem-based learning model (PBL) has an effect on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Keywords: Concept Understanding, Influence, Problem-Based Learning.
