Abstract
Abstract. Along with advances in technological developments in the field of construction and manufacturing, the need for welding is increasingly needed. One of the metal joining techniques commonly used today is Brazing. Brazing is an option for joining metals of different types and metals that have low weldability because melting only occurs in the filler metal. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the tensile strength and microstructure of different types of metals using brass and silver filler metals. This research combines Stainless Steel and Steel with filler metal of brass and silver. The standard used in the manufacture of specimens is JIS Z 2201 1981 with a connection using a Brazed joint with an open Square Grove seam. The method used for the testing process is tensile testing and microstructure photo testing. In the tensile test, the average tensile strength was 135.82N/mm² for specimens using silver metal filler and 11.406 N/mm² for specimens using brass metal filler. The difference in the average value of this tensile strength occurs due to the lack of heating on the base metal when the connection is to be carried out so that the filler metal grains cannot adhere perfectly. In addition, the large grain pattern of the microstructure at the joint boundary results in a decrease in the tensile strength value of the specimen. The results of the microstructure test also found that the thickness or thickness of the filler metal greatly affects the reaction at the joint boundary. The void at the joint, causing the shear stress to be low or down. Keywords : brazing, filler metal, stainless steel, steel, tensile strength, microstructure.
