Abstract
By : Hartawan Jalu Pratama Mental retardation is a condition with less intelligence (subnormal) from the time of development (from birth or from childhood). There is a lack of mental development as a whole, but the main symptom is retarded intelligence. The role of the family is needed in the care of family members affected by mental retardation disorders, which aims to meet the needs of self, social, language, motor, and cognitive. This study aims to determine the role of the family in caring for family members with mental retardation in the Balong village of Karangpatihan Ponorogo. The study design used is descriptive with a population of 36 respondents. Sampling technique used is total sampling, data collection tool was a questionnaire with data analysis using coding techniques, scoring and tabulating. From the results of research on the role of the 36 respondents had either 16 respondents or (44,44%) and a bad role or a number of 20 respondents (55,56%) Family members who have family members with mental retardation is expected to increase in order to care for family members of patients RM able to adapt and socialize with the surrounding environment with its limitations. For the people expected to be able to participate in the development and creativity of people who experience RM so that they can be helpful with its limitations. For further research could dig deeper into the role of the family in caring for family members with RM in the Village District of Balong Karangpatihan Ponorogo.
