Abstract

Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal which has a light specific gravity, is resistant to corrosion and has good heat conductivity. use of materials. light weight for various constructions has experienced a significant increase, for example in the aerospace field. Aluminum is often used in various manufacturing industries because of its many advantages. Al series 6061 is one of the most widely used aluminum alloys for transportation equipment bodies. For this reason, it is very important to find a connection method that is efficient, inexpensive and has easy operating procedures. This type of aluminum has poor performance properties. Using the right welding parameters will facilitate the aluminum welding process. Welding current is one of the welding parameters that plays an important role in the success of aluminum welding. This study aims to determine the effect of welding current strength on tensile and microstructure of SMAW welding results on Aluminum 6061 material with varying current strengths of 100 A, 130 A and 160 A. The tensile test was tested using a universal testing machine and the microstructure of the weld area and its surroundings were observed. using an optical microscope. From the results of the tensile test, the highest tensile strength is at a current strength of 100 A with a value of 81.29 MPa. When the current strength is increased to 130 A the tensile strength decreases to 74.21 Mpa and at 160 A current strength it decreases again to a value of 54.25 MPa. The results of microstructure photo testing show that the higher the current strength of the Mg2Si compound in the aluminum matrix in the HAZ region, the more it fades which results in a decrease in the tensile strength of the welds.
