Abstract

PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) (abbreviated: PT INKA) is a state-owned company engaged in the manufacture of ballast and bodywork, which was established on May 18, 1981 and began operating on August 29, 1981. PT INKA is the development of Balai Yasa The Madiun Steam Locomotive owned by PJKA (now PT Kereta Api Indonesia) uses the building erected by the Staatsspoorwegen in 1882. Since the steam locomotive was no longer in operation, this Balai Yasa was converted into a railroad factory. Determining the location and establishment of the train factory is based on the results of a study from BPPT. PT INKA, as a state-owned enterprise, continues to experience development, starting in 1981 with products in the form of economy-class passenger trains and freight cars, which have now become a modern railroad manufacturing industry. PT INKA's existing business activities are now developing from producing basic products to producing high-value railroad and transportation products and services. The business transformation carried out by the company was able to provide success and get the best solution for improving rail transportation. In global competition, PT INKA develops various types of products under the control of the ISO 9001 quality management system and global partnerships. Through continuous improvement and renewal as an effort to adapt to global competition, PT INKA enters this business world by prioritizing the values ​​of integrity, professionalism and quality. In facing the challenges of the business world going forward, PT INKA is not only engaged in railway products, but also produces other products that are more broadly capable of contributing to the demand for infrastructure and transportation facilities. PT INKA entered into a joint venture with General Electric in producing locomotives. Apart from production for domestic needs, production is also intended for export, especially to Malaysia. In 2019 PT INKA collaborated with PT Len Industri (Persero) and PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) to collaborate on business development by forming the Indonesia Railways Development Incorporated for Africa (IRDIA) consortium to expand the global railway market in the region of African countries. In addition, PT INKA together with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) collaborated with a Swiss train manufacturer, Stadler Rail, to establish a joint venture to build a railroad factory that has a special place for rolling tests and crash tests for railroad facilities according to the standards The International Railroad Union (UIC) in Banyuwangi, East Java. This collaboration will assist the government in developing the rail transportation system in the country as well as to increase competitiveness and expand foreign markets.
