ABSTRACT Lina Dwi Febrianti. 2023. The Strategy of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Developing the Tahfidzul Qur'an Program at Kauman Ponorogo 1 Public Middle School. Islamic education study program. Faculty of Islamic Religion. Advisor (I) Dr. Nuraini, M.Pd.I, and advisor (II) Azid Syukroni, M.Pd.I Keywords: PAI Teacher Strategy, Development of the Tahfidzul Qur'an Program The tahfidzul Qur'an program at SMPN 1 Kauman Ponorogo is an activity of reading and memorizing Al-Qur'an verses by students which is carried out as a form of implementation of the school's vision and mission, namely to educate students to have religious character. So that the PAI teacher's strategy greatly influences the success of the process in the tahfidz program in these public schools. The purpose of this research was conducted to study the strategies used by PAI teachers in developing the tahfidzul Qur'an program at SMP Negeri 1 Kauman Ponorogo. To find out the strategy, the results of implementing the strategy, as well as knowing the obstacles and solving problems. The research was conducted to study how the development of the tahfidz program can be carried out in public schools that do not have a qualified religious basis, such as madrasas or Islamic boarding schools. This research is a qualitative field research. Researchers used a series of qualitative methods in collecting data, namely by interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that (1) the PAI teacher's strategy in developing the tahfidz program at SMP Negeri 1 Kauman Ponorogo is by 1) Mapping student abilities and grouping students into 3 classes namely Iqra' class, tahsin class, and tahfidz class. 2) The tahfidz program is used as an intracurricular learning program. 3) Evaluation of memorization is controlled through tartil and tahfidz student books. 4) Organizing Al-Qur'an Camp activities. 5) establishing cooperation with the nearest Islamic boarding school, the Barokatul Qur'an Islamic boarding school. (2) The development of the tahfidzul Qur'an program by PAI teachers is a form of implementing the school's vision and mission, namely as an effort to improve the religious character of students, improve student achievement in terms of tahfidz competitions, as well as to raise the reputation of the institution. (3) The factors that impede the development of the tahfidz program: 1) The students' lack of enthusiasm in memorizing. 2) Lack of teachers. And 3) Ordinary parents who do not provide extrinsic motivation for students in memorizing the Al-Qur'an.
