English Education Department, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo. Advisor: (1) Niken Reti Indriastuti, M. Pd., (2) Dr. Bambang Harmanto, M. Pd. Keywords: Think Pair Share, Critical Thinking, Reading Comprehension. Good reading skills can help students develop critical and analytical thinking abilities. However, the ability to think critically is not always easy to learn and master. Therefore, there is a need for special approaches and strategies to train and improve critical thinking skills. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Think Pair Share (TPS) in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills in reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPIT Qurrota A’yun Ponorogo. The study employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study is all eight-grade students of SMPIT Qurrota A’yun Ponorogo in academic year 2022/2023 with a total of 28 students while the samples consisted of 12 eighth-grade students at SMPIT Qurrota A’yun Ponorogo. The research instrument used in collecting data is a written test (pre-test and post-test) in the form of a critical thinking test consisting of 15 open-ended questions. Based on the results of the research, it can be observed that the Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.002. Since 0.002 is smaller than 0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means that there is a significant difference between the average scores of the Pre-Test and Post-Test. In conclusion, the implementation of Think Pair Share has a positive effect on enhancing students’ critical thinking in reading comprehension at Grade VIII-Khadijah students of SMPIT Qurrota A’yun Ponorogo. The findings support the effectiveness of Think Pair Share as a teaching strategy in enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities in the specific context of reading comprehension.
