Abstract

ABSTRACT In this moment, a means that can increase people's interest in reading and as learning information is the library. With the development of information technology, libraries are required to provide information sources in electronic form. Because libraries have a strategic role in building accessibility of information technology-based library services through information organization and distribution of modern collections. The dynamics of digital libraries through various innovations have penetrated all aspects of people's lives, not only for the need to find information in higher education environments but permeated all levels of society. In order to provide convenience and easy access to information, quickly for readers and to increase public interest in reading which is still considered low. The purpose of this study is to determine the strategy of the Madiun City Government in increasing public interest in reading through digital libraries. This research uses a qualitative approach method by collecting data obtained from interviews, observations and documentation directly to the research location. By developing a digital library called iMadiun, the Madiun City Government through the Library and Archives Office keeps its promise to create a sophisticated generation and lead the way to a smart city. The introduction of iMadiun as a digital library is also inspired by current trends, where most people use gadget technology and the internet for various purposes. In this way, libraries are becoming increasingly important as a reliable source of information, culture, and entertainment. In addition, the existence of iMadiun offers a way to increase the level of public interest in reading which is still considered low.
