Abstract
This study discusses the analysis of the journalistic language of criminal news on social media @Riau Online July 2023 edition (study of the journalistic code of ethics article 5). The purpose of this research is to find out the use of journalistic language according to JS Badudu criminal news on social media @Riau Online July 2023 edition with reference to article 5 of the journalistic code of ethics. Criminal reporting on social media easily spreads and invites public opinion. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, namely researchers analyze and identify the use of journalistic language in criminal news on the social media @Riau Online July 2023 edition with reference to article 5 of the journalistic code of ethics. Data obtained through observation and documentation of criminal news on social media @Riau Online July 2023 edition as well as interviews with several informants. Each news item is analyzed to identify the use of journalistic language and article 5 of the journalistic code of ethics. The results of the study show that the use of journalistic language in criminal news on the social media @Riau Online July 2023 edition still finds words or sentences that do not match the characteristics of journalistic language. So there are still words or sentences that are long-winded. By analyzing the application of article 5 of the journalistic code of ethics, this research can provide an overview of the extent to which article 5 of the journalistic code of ethics is used on social media @Riau Online. From the results of the research, news on social media @Riau Online still found violations of the journalistic code of ethics article 5 which still clearly states the identity of the perpetrators of moral crimes. It is hoped that social media @Riau Online will improve the quality of criminal reporting on social media while still paying attention to the guidelines for using good and correct journalistic language and the journalistic code of ethics.
