Abstract

ALPINA DIAH AYU MARSELA WATI: Implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Model to Improve Understanding of Mathematical Concepts for Class XI TKRO Students at Bakti Ponorogo Vocational School. Thesis. Ponorogo: Mathematics Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, 2023. This study aims to describe the implementation model of Project Based Learning which can increase students' understanding of mathematical concepts in class XI TKRO at SMK Bakti Ponorogo. The material in this study is the length of the arc, the area of the sector and the external and internal tangents of the two circles. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was conducted in 2 cycles with each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. The subjects of this study were students of class XI TKRO 2 SMK Bakti Ponorogo for the 2022/2023 academic year, a total of 13 students. The instruments used to collect data include observation sheets of the implementation of learning, observation sheets of student activities and tests of understanding of mathematical concepts. Analysis of the data used in this study is data from observations of the implementation of learning, observations of student activities, and tests of understanding of mathematical concepts. The research was carried out with the steps of the teacher asking basic questions, dividing students into several groups, students starting to arrange schedules to work on project assignments with teacher monitoring. After the project was completed, the students presented the results and the teacher gave an evaluation regarding the work process and the results of the student project. In the 1st & 2nd cycle research that has been carried out there is an increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts, namely the average observation results of learning implementation from good to very good category, with an increase in percentage of 8.75% and from the average results of observations of student activity from good to very good category, with a percentage increase of 16.93%. As well as an increase in the average test results for students' understanding of mathematical concepts, namely from the medium to high category, with an increase in percentage of 18.8%. Thus, indicators of success in observing the implementation of learning and observing student activities in this study have been achieved, namely in the very good category and indicators of success in the test of understanding mathematical concepts in this study have also been achieved in the high category. The achievement of success indicators in this study is evidence of the implementation of the Project Based Learning model which can improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts.
