Abstract

Banana plants usually only bear fruit once and after fruiting the banana plant will die, generally the part of the banana plant taken is only the fruit and leaves while other parts will be left dead or cut and ignored. The cause of banana fronds is not used because it is considered waste that can no longer be processed and lack of knowledge and limited time to process into goods of economic value. This study aims to determine its mechanical properties by tensile test, observed the influence of type and volume fraction and utilizing old banana peepah. In making composites from banana kepok frond fiber, it uses a hand lay-up technique with ASTM D638 mold standards for tensile testing. This study used variations in the volume fraction of banana frond fiber, dried tree kepok and manual dry used between 40%, 50% and 60% with a fiber length of 165mm. The tensile strength of the banana fiber composite had the highest yield at 40% volume fraction of dry tree fiber of 13.16N/mm2
