Abstract

Biomass such as rice husk waste and water spinach plant waste can be a source of raw material for making charcoal briquettes as an alternative energy to replace fossil fuels (petroleum). This research aims to examine the quality of charcoal briquettes from rice husk waste mixed with water spinach plant waste for research on flame duration. The briquette making process includes a semi-carbonization process, mixing biomass with adhesive, molding, drying, and briquette quality testing. In this study, the composition ratio SP:KK (90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, 50:50) was used. Research on the quality of briquettes includes research on the initial ignition until the fire appears and the duration of the flame until it becomes ash. The research method uses images and the data is analyzed descriptively. The results of research on initial ignition until a fire appears using the composition ratio SP: KK (90: 10) ignites more quickly or causes a fire when compared to other compositions. The time required for a fire to appear was 1.24 minutes. From the results of research on the length of time the flame burns until it becomes ash in the briquettes, the use of the composition SP: KK (50: 50) burns the longest or burns out the longest when compared to other compositions. The resulting time was 38.02 minutes. From the research results, it can be concluded that using a material composition ratio of SP: KK (50: 50) burns longer or burns out the longest and the initial ignition process does not take too long.
