Abstract
Lack of knowledge of patient caretakers in implementing proper hand washing procedures can be one of the contributions to the occurrence of nosocomial infections in hospitals. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between knowledge and the accuracy of hand washing procedures among patient waiters in the ward room at RSU Darmayu Ponorogo. The research design uses analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. The number of respondents in this study was 77 respondents, the number of samples was taken using a purposive sampling technique, and data collection was carried out in October 2023. The data obtained was analyzed using the Chi Square test. The research results showed that as many as 39 respondents were in the sufficient knowledge level category and 35 respondents were in the good hand washing accuracy category. The statistical test results obtained a p-value = 0.001 (<0.05), which means there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the ability to wash hands among patient attendants in the Inpatient Room at RSU Darmayu Ponorogo. Providing health promotion by hospitals regarding hand washing procedures and providing hand washing facilities in strategic places can increase the awareness of patient caretakers to maintain hand hygiene while in the hospital environment.
