Abstract

Increasingly significant. One of the most striking changes has occurred in the way news is delivered and consumed, particularly through social media platforms. Today, social media is not only a place for social interaction, but also the dissemination of information and news that is relevant to many individuals. This change is not without both positive and negative consequences. Social media allows news to reach a wider audience instantly. However, on the other hand, it also carries risks related to the this research uses a qualitative approach and is descriptive in nature. this research aims to examine the Gatekeeping theory on Instagram social media @beritamagetan by understanding more deeply the mechanism of gatekeeper activities on social media in conveying information. Gatekeeping on social media @beritamagetan refers more to how the account manager process chooses what material or news will be spread to the social media platform after being published by the initial news source. The news that is obtained will go through a modification stage and then be changed according to social media rules (community guidelines) In addition, gatekeeping can help stop the spread of fraud or misinformation on social media.
