Abstract

This research presents an analysis of mixed briquettes of used tire waste char and coconut shell carbon. Used tire waste is a problem that requires special methods of processing. Alternative technology has been developed to reduce the amount of used tire waste using the pyrolysis method. Making briquettes from char (solid) raw materials resulting from the pyrolysis process of used tires is the right choice as an alternative source of heat energy to reduce the use of fuel which is most widely used to meet daily needs. Making these briquettes uses a mixture of used tire waste char and coconut shell carbon with the composition of the briquette mixture varying from specimen 1, namely CLBB 67.5%: 22.5% CEC, specimen 2, namely CLBB 45%: 45% CEC, and specimen 3, namely CLBB 22.5%: CEC 67.5%. Each specimen uses tapioca flour adhesive with a composition of 10%. The quality test results of briquette specimens will be known by testing chemical characteristics (water content, volatile matter content, ash content, calorific value, bound carbon content) and physical characteristics (burning rate). From the results of the briquette testing, specimen 1 produced the best value in all tests with a water content value of 3.60%, volatile matter content 43.07%, ash content 1.67%, calorific value 8554.72 cal/gr, bound carbon content 51.66%, combustion rate 0.9527 gr/minute. From all tests on all briquette samples, the values for water content, ash content and calorific value are in accordance with the quality standard characteristics that have been determined in SNI 01-6235-2000. Keywords: Used tire char, coconut shell, bound carbon content, calorific value, combustion rate.
