Abstract

The risk of helplessness in Chronic Kidney Disease patients is something that needs to be considered because it affects psychosocially where the patient will be at risk of losing control of himself because he has to undergo hemodialysis for the rest of his life. This case study aims to provide nursing care for Chronic Kidney Disease patients with nursing problems at risk of helplessness. Nursing care for Mr. A Chronic Kidney Disease patient with nursing problems at risk of helplessness was carried out in the Flamboyan II room at Darmayu General Hospital Ponorogo for 3 days of activities on 6-8 May 2024. The method used was the nursing process approach. The results of the assessment showed that the patient experienced a risk of helplessness where the patient felt feelings of anxiety, fear, shame and depression. Interventions carried out to overcome this problem include using a therapeutic approach and providing education on the Benson relaxation technique that have been modified using spiritual aspects with dhikr. Then the result of the implementation that has been carried out is Mr. A can communicate comfortably and calmly and Mr. A can practice the Benson relaxation technique when he is afraid or anxious. Then the results of the evaluation of Mr. A for 3 days, namely the problem of risk of helplessness proven by a long or unpredictable course of the disease has been resolved. It is hoped that nursing care for Chronic Kidney Disease patients at risk of helplessness can become a reference for nurses, especially in treating patients at risk of helplessness by using a therapeutic approach and education on Benson relaxation techniques.
