Abstract
Key Words: Talking Stick Method, Speaking Skill Speaking is an important skill, because one of the keys in English communication is speaking skill. To master speaking skill, students should try to use English in communication orally. In teaching speaking, we can use method or media to improve speaking skill. One method that we can use is Talking Stick Method. Talking Stick method is a method using a stick that have an opportunity people to give their idea or thought. This method can make the students enjoying, interested and speaking up in English. The purpose of this research is to find out the implementation of talking stick method in speaking ability at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Kec. Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016 will be reached. The subject of this research was the students of VIII B SMP Negeri 1 Kec. Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016 started on August 19th 2015 until August 26th2015, which consist of 29 students. The study was conducted in two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments. There are field note, interview, and test. From this data, it had been seen that the implementation of Talking Stick method can help the students improve speaking ability in SMP Negeri 1 Kec. Ponorogo. The field note showed that students were interested, enjoying, speaking up and the interview result showed the students active in this lesson. The result of this test showed that the students who passed the standard score increase from 44.83% in cycle I to 96.55 % in cycle II. Finally, the researcher suggests for English teachers to Talking Stick method in their speaking teaching, because it can improve students’ speaking skill. Besides, it can make the students were interested and enjoying in teaching learning process and also motivate the students to speak up and more active.
