Abstract

Every year millions of tons of plastic are dumped into the environment and most of them end up in the ocean causing damage to marine ecosystems and threatening wildlife. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the plastic materials that is safe to use by the community because this basic plastic has properties that tend to be harder and resistant to high temperatures. Low Density Poly Ethylene (LDPE) is a plastic used for packaging soft bottles and bags, this type of plastic is non-biodegradable or cannot be degraded by microorganisms. The specimen testing method is to use tensile testing as well as macro and micro structural testing for the highest tensile strength value obtained at 100% HDPE composition of 17.979 Mpa while the highest tensile strength value from mixing the three materials is obtained in specimens with 60% HDPE composition. LDPE 25%, Rice Stem 15% with a value of 12.962 Mpa. While the lowest value is obtained in the composition of 60% LDPE, 30% HDPE, 10% Rice Stems which is worth 5.717 Mpa. HDPE material has a big effect on the strength of each specimen, with a high percentage of HDPE material producing a good tensile strength value. For the micro test results, it is concluded that HDPE and LDPE plastic materials can be mixed well even though they have differences in their molecular structures, similar molecular structures allow them to be mixed effectively without significant phase separation.
