Abstract

Plastic waste is human waste which we can use to make useful mixed materials. Environmental pollution due to plastic waste and wood dust is still a problem that humans continue to face today. Therefore, one way to reduce this waste is to reuse it as material or background for this research. The recycling process is by making a plastic wood composite using HDPE, PET and Mango Wood Powder with 3 percentage ratios of 100% pure HDPE, 100% pure PET, and a mixture of HDPE : PET : Mango Wood Powder (60:20:20) with 3 temperature variations (260℃, 270℃, 280℃). For products made in the form of rib battens. The method is carried out by inserting the mixture of materials into an injection molding machine to be melted where the injection molding temperature varies between 260℃, 270℃, and 280℃ then injected into a mold in the form of rib battens with dimensions of 50mm long, 40mm wide and 20mm thick. Next, mechanical and physical tests were carried out with hardness test data showing significant variations between the test specimens. Test specimens with 100% pure HDPE plastic composition at a temperature of 280℃ showed the highest hardness value, namely HRB 90.3, while with a plastic ratio of HDPE: PET: Mango Wood Powder 60:20:20 at a temperature of 260℃ had the lowest hardness with a HRB value of 39. 6. The penetration depth of hardness testing on the volume fraction of 100% HDPE plastic at a temperature of 280℃ showed results of 0.084, 0.074, 0.08. By making plastic wood composites from HDPE, PET and Mango Wood Powder, we can reduce excess plastic waste in society.
