Abstract
In the era of the development of the current era, it is necessary to innovate material technology by utilizing natural resources in order to create environmentally friendly and quality materials, as in this study entitled "The Effect of the Combination of Coir Fiber and Coconut Charcoal with Polyester Resin Reinforcement on Tensile Strength and Impact", the hand layup techniqueUsed in the manufacture of composites, after the manufacture of specimens, the next stage is the observation of microstructures, after which tensile tests and impact tests are carried out, and the final stage of macrostructure analysis on fractures after testing. In the analysis of the microstructure, there are still air cavities trapped in the specimen, which affects the performance of the specimen when given the test load, in the impact test, the average result of the highest impact price in the C specimen is 25% volume fraction of 15% coconut fiber 15% charcoal and 60% resin of 0.029 j/mm² and the average result of the impact price the lowest in Specimen D the volume fraction of 40% charcoal 60% resin was 0.008 J/mm², the difference in the increase in the average yield of the impact price was influenced by the increase in the fiber volume fraction and the decrease in the volume fraction of charcoal, in the tensile test the results of the highest average tensile strength value in the C specimen of the volume fraction of 15% fiber: 25% charcoal was 47.23 Mpa, while the result of the lowest average tensile strength value was produced in the E specimen of 40% charcoal: 60% resin of 32.18 Mpa, the contribution of fibers will also increase and can cause the composite to become stronger and have a higher tensile load containment and the application of a charcoal volume fraction with a mesh pass size of 180 also acts as a reinforcement in the composite, with the addition of a volume fraction of charcoal powder is able to increase the strength of the composite because charcoal powder can strengthen the composite matrix and increase the interaction between fibers and matrix, in the analysis of the macro structure, there is a brittle fracture in the specimen where the surface of the resistance appears flat and there is a fiber pull out that affects the performance of the composite material.
