Abstract
Indonesia is the largest producer of plastic waste in the world, whose waste can threaten both human life and the lives of other living creatures. To reduce plastic waste, this research made composite boards made from high density polyethylene (HDPE) and coconut shell powder (STK) with five ratios of HDPE:STK:Adhesive (35:55:10; 55:35:10; 40:40: 10; 0:90:10; 90:0:10). The method used is to mold a board model with dimensions of 60mm long, 40mm wide and 7mm thick to be used as a mold in the hot pressing process. The materials are then put into the model using a hot press machine, where the pressing temperature varies between 220°C and 250°C and then tested for hardness and microstructure. The hardness test results showed significant variations between the specimens tested. The level of hardness will decrease if more coconut shell powder (STK) is mixed and increases when more HDPE is used. The 35:55:10 specimen has an HRC value of 26.8 and the 55:35:10 specimen has an HRC value of 56.3. The presence of an important adhesive in terms of binding the structure between HDPE and coconut shell powder (STK), this product can be used for home decoration.
