Abstract

This research will test how much influence the corrosion rate has if the base paint is mixed with additional materials containing anti-corrosion substances. This research focuses on the PANi/ZrO2 mixture material, in this material there are 4 phases including, cubic (c), tetragonal (t), Tetragonal-monoclinic (tm), and monoclinic (m). This research will focus on the monoclinic phase with a composition percentage set at 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% which will be mixed into the base paint. The object that will be used is ST-42 steel, which is a metal that is often used for daily activities. This research test used the Tafel method and the final test results obtained for metal samples without coating obtained a corrosion rate value of 1.055mpy, samples with a paint coating obtained a corrosion rate value of 0.671mpy, samples with a paint coating + PANi/ 2.5% m-ZrO2 obtained The corrosion rate value is 0.459mpy, the sample with a paint layer + PANi/ 5% m-ZrO2 gets a corrosion rate value of 0.3998mpy, the sample with a paint layer + PANi/ 7.5% m-ZrO2 gets a corrosion rate value of 0.459mpy. 0.3245mpy and the sample with a paint layer + PANi/ 10% m-ZrO2 obtained a corrosion rate value of 0.1035mpy. The results of the discussion show that the ST-O sample has the largest corrosion rate value compared to other samples. The ST-CM10 sample has the smallest corrosion rate value compared to the other samples. Comparison of samples using paint only and paint added with PANi/m-ZrO2 also shows figures where ST-CM2 shows a comparison figure of 32%, ST-CM5 of 40%, ST-CM7 of 52% and ST-CM10 of 85 %. The method we use here is proven to be able to withstand the rate of corrosion by adding PANi/m-ZrO2 substance better than just using base paint as a ST-42 metal coating.
