Abstract

A student must be able to complete tasks according to the chosen field in order to get a degree at the end of the semester, including in working on the final assignment. In the process of completing a bachelor's degree (S1), students must prepare from the beginning of the semester because this final assignment is at the end of the semester. Students are required to complete a final assignment or thesis. The stages of compiling a thesis, the first thing students do is determine the theme. The theme can be obtained by reading a lot of journals or literature that suits the student's interests. The theme will be the benchmark for the formation of the thesis title. In determining the title of the thesis, students often experience difficulties so that they have to change the title of the thesis several times and in determining the title of the thesis, it is very possible that the title will be similar to the title that already exists. As an initial step to prevent similarity in thesis titles, a method is needed to detect possible similarities by matching and comparing the thesis with previous theses that have been published. To find out if there are similarities, you can use the string matching algorithm. In this research, a system was produced that can be used to match strings on documents and is equipped with the percentage of similarity in the thesis title. The process that will be applied in this research is the system will search for strings and compare them with strings in the database. In this program, the percentage of similarity of thesis titles will be provided. From the test results, the system can run well according to the expectations and initial objectives of the research.
