Abstract

Speaking is considered as the most important language skill used to communicate and express ideas of people’s life. This reality makes teacher think that speaking skill should be mastered by the students. In SMP N 2 JETIS PONOROGO showed that the speaking mastery was low. Here, the researcher chooses Zip – Zap Game method because Zip – Zap Game method is a technique which makes the students talk to express idea with their utterance that appropriate for certain situations in different case. Here, each student describes picture sponaniously. The purpose of the study was to know the implementation of Zip – Zap Game Method in teaching speaking at the eight grade students of SMP N 2 JETIS PONOROGO in 2015/2016 academic year and to measure whether Zip – Zap Game Method improves students’ speaking ability at the eight grade student of SMP N 2 JETIS PONOROGO in 2015/2016 academic year. In this study, the researcher used Classroom Action Research. It consisted of four steps, they were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher used three instruments to do the research. They were observation, questionnaire and test. Observation sheet is the tool to observe and control classroom activity. The questionnaire consists of questions list that is arranged by the researcher to give the students feedback from the list as the comments from all of things in teaching and learning process. The test is used to know the students’ achievement. The finding of the research showed the improvement of students’ speaking ability. It can be seen from: 1) The result of observation checklist proved that there was improvemement from cycle 1 to the cycle 2. The students were active in teaching and learning process, and asking about difficult material. 2) The result of questionnaire improved from cycle 1 to the cycle 2, most of the students were motivated and interested in using Zip – Zap Game technique because it made them easier to speak. 3) The students’ achievement also increased, the result of the test showed that in cycle 1, 68.18% students reached the KKM, and it increased to 81.13% who reached the KKM in cycle 2. Finally, the researcher concluded that the result of this research showed the improvement in students’ speaking skill by using Zip – Zap Game Method at the eight grade students of SMP N 2 JETIS PONOROGO in 2015/2016 academic year.
