Abstract

Key Word: Guess Word Method, Reading Reading is one of the language skills which shulod be taught in English subject. Through the teaching and learning of reading, the students are expected to be able to comprehend the reading passages they read.To master reading, the students need desire and they shouldbe tried to read something intensively and continually. This research focuses on the improvement in learning students reading comprehension using Guess Word method at seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 JetisPonorogo in the academic years 2015/2016. The subject of this Classroom Action Research was students of the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Jetis consisting of 18 students. The research was started on January, 2016. The research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisted 2 meetings. The researcher used three research instruments. There were observation check list, questionnaire, and test. The research was done in two cycles. In cycle 1, the result of observation checklist showed that the students were not active enough. The result of questionnaire showed that they still got difficulty to comprehend reading in learning English. The average score of test result was 69. In cycle 2, the result of observation checklist showed that the students were active in teaching and learning process. The result of questionnaire showed that the students were interest in reading by using guess word method and it was proper to be implemented in teaching English, especially for reading. The average score of the test result increased become 86.47. Finally, the researcher suggests to English teachers that they can use Guess Word method as alternative method in teaching reading. The next researcher can develop this method by using various kinds media to get the better result in teaching learning process.
