Abstract
Keyword : Speaking, Teaching Speaking Speaking is one fundamental skill essential to master in learning a foreignlanguage. Not only does it bear a highly communicative value, but also it is generally regarded as the parameter of one’s proficiency in a foreign language. In school, English teachers need access to a wide range of knowledge and skill to teach well in teaching speaking. Making the students to speak in the class is not easy because most student assume that english is very difficult.Statement of the problems which stated by researcher were the teacher preparation in teaching speaking and the teacher strategy to teach speaking in bilingual class students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The research was conducted in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo by using interview, observation, and documentation instrument. The interview was held with the English teacher by using depth interview guide lines. The researcher observed the teaching speaking activities in class. During speaking activity, the researcher kept attention to describe whatever the teacher and students did. The researcher analyzed the data by using descriptive qualitative research design to get clear description of teaching speaking process and activity. Based on the finding, the teacher needed preparation before entering the class such as preparing the games, group discussion, small drama in teaching speaking activity. Through that strategy, the most students took a part to express their idea orally in front of class. The important thing to begin the activity was a plan by using scenario plan in order that the teacher could control every problem in class activity, students, and time. Besides, the main three activities should be completed such as pre activity, whilst activity and post activity then evaluate them to support teaching speaking activity. The teacher strategy could make students brave to speak. It increased students’ enthusiasm and interaction between teacher to students and students to students. Finally, the writer proposed some suggestions to the teacher developing the strategy and paying attention to all students, the student should practice to speak frequently to make easy in speaking skill.
