Abstract
Keywords : PPP Method, Writing Skill, Descriptive Text. Writing is the written language skill that needs a long process starting from brainstorming up to final product. In teaching writing, teacher needs a method to improve students’ writing ability especially in writing descriptive text. Descriptive text is one kind of texts that required to be mastered by students it is because descriptive text is the common text which taught in the school especially in junior high school. PPP method is the most common modern methodology employed by professional schools around the world. The research question of this research is “To what extent the effectiveness of Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) Method toward Students’ writing skill in descriptive text at the First Grade Students of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo?”. the purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) Method toward Students’ Writing Skill in Descriptive Text at the First Grade students of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo”. The population of this research is the students of the first grade of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo in the academic years 2015/2016. In this research, the samples are the students of class VII A and VII B. Students of VII A as experiment class and students of VII B as control class. Each of class has 23 students, so the total numbers of samples are 46 students. Based on the result of the research, the use of PPP method is not effective in teaching writing descriptive text at the first grade of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo. It can be seen on the table of the students’ writing comprehension scores that the students who learn writing comprehension by using Presentation, Practice and Production (PPP) method have not significance different. The result of is 1.58 it is lower than = 2.02, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected and the null hypothesis is accepted. The result of questionnaire of experimental class is 76.52 % and the result of control class is 73.04 %, it means that the response of both classes are positive during learning process. The factor that cause PPP method not effective in teaching writing descriptive text at the first grade of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo is students are not too enthusiastic in learning English, it can be seen on the students’ test. So the limitation of the research a) the time of the research was limited, b) the implementation of the method was not optimal, c) the response of the students is not enthusiastic, d) the result of students’ score was increased but was not significant. Finally, the implementation of PPP method in teaching writing descriptive text at the first grade of SMP N 1 Siman Ponorogo is not effective.
