Abstract

Key Words: Writing Skill, Comic Writing is one of four skills that should be learned by the student. It is a process to develop the critical thinking and feeling. Writing is not only need the ability of the language but it also needs the knowledge from the writers. Writing is one of the most difficult aspects for students to master. Less skill of writing is the biggest problem on it. The students usually have not understood yet about how to compound a sentence and less knowledge about grammar especially in tenses. In teaching Writing, the teacher should find the right media that make student understand the material that was explained by the teacher. Teaching writing using comic is one way that could be adapted in the class. Comic is a series of pictures that has relation to each other and sometimes helped by some articles to explain the idea. The pictures can help the student to develop their ability in writing. By seeing the pictures the student can guess and imagine whether the story is tell about. This media is very enjoyable for students because they can express their ideas just by seeing and read that comic. The statement of problem of this research is how can comic improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade of MTs N Ngunut, Ponorogo in academic year 2015/2016? The purpose of this research is to improve students’ writing skill using comic at eighth grade of MTs N Ngunut, Ponorogo in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. The subject of the research was the eighth grade students of of MTs N Ngunut, Ponorogo in the Academic Year of 2015/2016 especially class C which consisted of 30 students. The kind of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. The research was started on May 13th, 2016 until 23th, 2016. The researcher used three research instruments; they were observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of comic could improve students’ writing skill at the eighth grade students of MTs Ngunut Ponorogo. It was seen from the improvement of mean of students’ score from 65.3 in cycle I up to 77.5 in cycle II. The questionnaire result showed 74.99% in cycle I up to 85.83% in cycle II. Observation checklist result showed 57.14 % in cycle I up to 78.57 %. It means that students enjoyed and became active during teaching learning process. Finally based on the result that had been found, researcher concluded that the comic is the effective media to teach English especially in writing skill. It was because this media can improve the students’ writing skill. The researcher also gives suggestion that English teacher can use comic in teaching writing. In addition the next researcher can develop this media.
