Abstract

Key Words: Flashcard, vocabulary, classroom action research Vocabulary is extremely large and also varied. Nobody ever learn all of the words in any language, but they can enlarge the number of words they have. It is hard to master foreign language without mastering certain number of vocabulary. Without mastering the vocabulary, they students can get trouble in listening, reading, speaking and writing. Whereas, Teaching English Vocabulary in SDN 5 Ngrayun lacks of students interest, so the students are bored and lose their attention. The problem of this research is How can the flash card improve the mastery of vocabulary at Fifth grade students of SDN 5 Ngrayun Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015-2016. The purpose of this study is finding out how the implementation of flash card media can improve the mastery of vocabulary at Fifth grade students of SDN 5 Ngrayun Ponorogo in academic year of 2015-2016. The subjects of this research are the students of fifth grade in the 2015-2016 academic year. Classroom action research is used in this research by using Kemmis and McTaggart’s model of classroom action research to design her research. The research procedures are reconnaissance, analysis and identification, planning, the implementation of the action, observation, and reflection. The data were collected through observation checklist, test item, questionnaire, and field notes. In doing the research, the researcher was helped by a collaborator. The result shows that the use of flashcard could improve the student’s vocabulary. Affective aspect had been reached. From Psychomotor aspect, the students enjoyed giving positive response toward the activities. Then, from cognitive aspect, the students had been able to pronounce and spell the word correctly also arrange the letter into good order. The students’ minimum score or KKM reached 60.0. It fulfills the criteria of success which is determined 6.00. In conclusion, clearly that teaching vocabulary by using flashcard is suitable to be implemented to improve student’s vocabulary. Thus, the researcher suggests teachers to use it as a variation in teaching English.
