Abstract

Key Words : Reading Comprehension, Think- Pair -Share, Picture Series. Reading is considered as the most important language skill used to communicate. In SMAN 1 Badegan Ponorogo showed that the reading comprehension mastery was low. Here, the researcher chose teaching reading comprehension class because teaching Reading class is a technique which makes the students read to others to express idea. Based on the fact above, the researcher concluded that the statement of this study was “Can the think pair share by using picture stories improve reading comprehension to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Badegan? So, the purpose of the study was to find out whether and the suitable steps Think Pair Share by using picture stories can improve the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Badegan. The subject of this research was the students of tenth grade class X of SMAN 1 Badegan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2016/2017, which consisted of 20 students. The research was started on July 21, 2016 until August 5, 2016. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments. They were: observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on research finding and analysis, the researcher got conclusion that teaching reading by think pair share model was effective because the classroom activities became enjoyable in which the students could study comfortably. Think pair share model made the students more interested to study English reading and not boring, they are more active during teaching learning process and more serious in give attention of lesson material, Observation; From the observation checklist in cycle 1 the mean percentage students was 67.5%, but in cycle 2 they improved with mean percentage 78,33%; From the result of test showed that in cycle 1 the average score was 70.5% and in cycle 2 the average score was 83,9%. Questionnaire; In cycle 1 the mean percentage students was 61%, but in cycle 2 can improved with mean percentage 83.5%. Finaly, the researcher concluded that there was an improvement students’ reading comprehension using think pair share method with Picture series at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Badegan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2016/2017.
