Abstract

Key words : Plug and Play (PnP Application), Tenses, Simple Present Tense. In English grammar there are components that need to understand before using it. One of them is tense. Tense is used to express an event in certain time that must be suitable in sentence because it will determine the meaning. Many problems happen to students while learning grammar for instance in tenses learning. In observation activity, the researcher found that students in eighth class at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo sometimes be confused about tense particularly in verbs. Students looked hard to differentiate whether appropriate verb based on the use of tense. Based on the problems, this research would use Plug and Play (PnP) Application as a media to increase students’ tenses mastery. Therefore the purpose of this research was to find out how Plug and Play (PnP) can improve students’ tenses mastery. In this research, the researcher used classroom action research (CAR) that consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher used some instruments they were: observation checklist, questionnaire, and test. The observation was used to know the classroom activities during teaching learning process with Plug and Play. The result of questionnaire was used for supporting and became a tool to get student’s opinions concerning with tenses and the benefit of this application. The test was used to measure students’ tenses mastery. The result of observation activity showed that the students more active and their attention were increased when the researcher explained the lesson. From the questionnaire result, the researcher knew that PnP Application was accepted by the students. The students were more interested and understood about the material by using this application in tenses learning. It was proven in the students’ test result that showed all of students could reach the minimum score of criteria. Finally, the researcher concluded that the purpose of this study was successful. The teaching and learning process in junior high school using PnP Application as media was more effective. It made the students interested and enjoying in tenses learning. The implementation of PnP Application as a media could improve students’ tenses mastery at eighth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in academic year 2017 / 2018.
