Abstract
Key Words : Reading Comprehension, Context Clues Context Clues Strategy are hints found within a sentence, paragraph, or passage that a reader can use to understand the meaning of new unfamiliar word. The purpose of this research was to find out the improving students’ reading comprehension through Context Clues Strategy at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Pulung in the academic year of 2017/2018. The subject of this research was the students of the eight grade class VIII A of SMPN 1 Pulung in the academic year of 2017/2018, which consisted of 32 students. The research was started on on 31st July – 5th August 2017. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of two meeting. The research used three research instruments. They were: observation checklist, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research,the observation checklist result showed that the students become active during teaching learning process. It was seen from the total of score observation checklist cycle 1 was 60.4% up to 79.1% in cycle 2.The total questionnaire in cycle 1 was 62.2% and questionnaire cycle 2 was 79.2%.The implementation of Context Clues Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Pulung in the academic year of 2017/2018. It was seen from the result of students test. In cycle 1, there were 62.5% students passing in the test. The result of students test in cycle 2, the students who reached the minimum score based from KKM was 100%. It means that the students reading comprehension was improved. Finally, the researcher hopes that the result of this study will be useful for the next researcher. For the next researcher, it is suggested that they can use the findings of this research as a reference in conducting similar studies in reading comprehension using different setting, such as levels of the students or difficulties of the reading materials
