Abstract

Key Words : Improving Students’, Writing Skill, Content Based Instructions. Writing is an important skill and is often considered a key factor in gaining corporate andpersonal success. In MTs Muhammadiyah Jenangan Ponorogo showed that the writing skill mastery was low. Here, the researcher chose teaching writing skill class because teaching writing class is a technique which makes the students read to others to express idea. Based on the fact above, the researcher concluded that the statement of this study was “Does and How can content based instruction approachimprove students’ writing skill by the eigth grade of MTs. Muhammadiyah Jenangan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016? So, the purpose of the study wasto find out whether and the suitable steps Content Based Instruction Approach can improve the eigth grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Jenangan Ponorogo. The subject of this research was the students of eigth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah Jenangan Ponorogo in the academic year of 2015/2016, which consisted of 26 students. The research was started on August19, 2015 until August 21, 2015. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. The researcher used three research instruments. They were: observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on research finding and analysis, the researcher got conclusion that teaching writing by Content Based Instruction Approach was effective because the classroom activities became enjoyable in which the students could study comfortably. Content Based Instruction Approach made the students more interested to study English writing and not boring, they are more active during teaching learning process and more serious in give attention of lesson material, Observation; From the observation checklist in cycle 1 the mean percentage students was 64,2%, and in cycle 2 the average score was 84%; From the result of test showed that in cycle 1 the average score was 61% and in cycle 2 the average score was 83%. Questionnaire; In cycle 1 the mean percentage students was 76,9%, but in cycle 2 can improved with mean percentage 84,2%. Finaly, the implementation of Content Based Instruction Aproach in improving students’ writing comprehension at the eight grade students of MTs Muhammadiyah Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2015-2016 is effective for teaching and learning process especially in writing.
