Abstract
This study aimed at describing types as well as values of character education found in Indonesian folklores, specifically from Ponorogo, the city of Reog. Besides, this study reveals the relevance of Indonesian folklore in teaching literature for Junior High School students in Indonesia. Data are taken from the previous research findings on documenting Indonesian folklores, done by the researcher, consisting of 9 folklores. The study uses content analysis as the design. The findings show that the folklore classified into two, historical (2) and legend (7). Based on the analysis, Indonesian folklores contain great values of education character which suitable for teaching practices, such as: religious, Spirit of Nation,, honest, discipline, responsibility, and social care. In addition, those 9 folklores are applicable and suitable to use as teaching material for literature topics at Junior High School level in Indonesia.
