Meiningrum, Lia Surya. 2013. Improving Students’ Writing Skill by Using Picture Media in Mind Mapping Method at Seventh Grade SMPN 1 Bungkal in the Academic year of 2012/2013. Thesis. Key words : Mind Mapping Method, Writing skill The researcher finds some problems in teaching writing skill at junior highs school. The students’ writing skill is low because they have minimum practice and confused to write English correctly. Thus, the problem statements of this research was how does picture media in Mind Mapping method improve students’ writing skill at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Bungkal. The purposes of the study this research was how the picture media in Mind Mapping method improve the students’ writing skill at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Bungkal. The students are expected to be able to write procedure text correctly. This study used classroom action research design. The researcher planned the action, implemented, observed and reflected in this design. For collecting data, the strategies used questionnaire, observation, and test. The research was done in SMPN 1 Bungkal started on May7, 2013 until May21, 2013. The subjects of research were the students at the seventh grade that consisted of 32 students. The research was done in two cycles. Percentage of minimum score of observation was namely 61%. Based on the result of observation in cycle I was 37.4%. Percentage of minimum score of questionnaire was namely 61%. Based on the result of questionnaire in cycle I was 54.3%. Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of the test is 76. Based on the result of test in cycle I it was found that the mean score of the class action research was58.3 and the students' highest score was80 and the lowest score was63.3. Therefore, the researcher suggested to continue to the second cycle. In the cycle II the result of observation was 94.2%, the result of questionnaire was 92.8% and the mean score of the class action research was87.1 and the students' highest score was96.6 and the lowest score was76.6. The researcher concludes that the implementation of Mind Mapping Method in writing procedure text improve the students’ writing skill in the seventh grade students SMPN 1Bungkal. Finally, some suggestions for the students, English teacher, school and next researcher were offered. For the students’ should be able to try to use the method to improve their other skill in English. For English teacher are to make innovation and creativity to implement various kinds of teaching method. For school, give facilities and support the teacher in developing their quality in teaching English. Meanwhile, for the next researcher, they can develop the method by using various kinds of method.
