Abstract

Key Words: Jigsaw Method , Article, Writing Skills Writing is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us. In teaching writing, we can use method to improve students’ proficiency in writing. The method is Jigsaw method. Jigsaw method is one of the most flexible cooperative method of learning goals rather then mastery of skills mastery of concept so that each students depends on his teammates to be able to provide the necessary information in order to perform well at the time of assessment. The statement of problem of this research are “How the implementation of Jigsaw method can improve students’ writing skills at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2012/2013” and “How the result of the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ writing skills at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2012/2013” is the purpose of this research are “To describe the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ writing skills at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2012/2013” and “To know the result of the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ writing skills at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2012/2013”. The subject of this Classroom Action Research was the students of the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo in academic year 2012/2013 which consisted of 28 students. The research was started on July 26th, 2012 until August 2nd, 2012. This research was conducted in two cycles. The writers used three research instruments. There are observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ writing skills at the eight grade of SMPN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo, it was seen from the improvement of students’ score from 90 in cycle I and cycle II. The questionnaire result showed that students enjoyed and become active during teaching learning process. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers can use Jigsaw method as alternative method in teaching writing. The next researcher can develop this method by using various kinds of the media to get the better result in teaching learning process.
