Abstract

Key Words: Jigsaw Method, Improving, Reading comprehension Reading is one of the important skills in English and it gives many benefits for us. To master reading, students need to have reading desire and must be tried to read something intensivly and continually. In teaching reading, we can use technique to improve students’ reading ability. The method is Jigsaw. Jigsaw is a teaching method developed as an interactive approach between students, teachers, and lesson materials This research discusses about the implementation of Jigsaw Method to improve students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Jetis Ponorogo in 2012/2013 academic year and the result of the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Jetis Ponorogo in 2012/2013 academic year. The purpose of this research is to know the result of the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Jetis Ponorogo in 2012/2013 academic year. The subject of this research was the students of the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Jetis Ponorogo in 2012/2013 academic year which consisted of 20 students. The research was started on August 2nd until September 3rd 2012. This research was conducted in two cycles. The writers used three research instruments. There are observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of Jigsaw method to improve students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Jetis Ponorogo, it was seen from the improvement of average of students’ score from 68.20 in cycle I up to 83.50 in cycle II. The questionnaire result showed that students enjoyed and become active during teaching learning process. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers can use Jigsaw method as alternative method in teaching reading. The next researcher can develop this method by using various kinds of the media to get the better result in teaching learning process.
