Abstract

This study is about the implementation of using cartoon conversation video to improve pronunciation ability in speaking at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Kauman in the academic year 2019. The aims of this study is to find out the percentage of students who are able to pronounce English words correctly and to find out whether or not cartoon conversation video improve pronunciation ability. This study is implemented cartoon conversation video as the multimedia to improve pronunciation ability. This study used classroom action research conducted in two cycles. There were three instruments for this study such as observation, questionnaire, and test. The data of this research were the voices recorder of the students’ pronunciation. There were thirty two students of the eighth class A, they were pairs that practical the conversation in pairs. The data were scored based on the sum of correct words they had spoken. In order to determine whether the percentage was high or low, the writer used criterion score classification. The research finding proves that cartoon conversation video was successfully to improve pronunciation ability. It’s showed from the students’ activity during teaching and learning process. The students were active and more confident to practice in the class; there are 53% in cycle 1 and 87% in cycle 2. From the student’s interest it’s showed that the students were very interest in learning English pronunciation, it’s showed in the result of data, from the questionnaire 1 got 93% and in cycle 2 got 98%. The score showed that in the cycle 1 test the students who got > 75 was 87.50%, and in the cycle 2 test all of the students can reach > 75. The result of the research refers to the teachers to choose the interesting media in teaching pronunciation. The appropriate media to teach pronunciation is cartoon conversation video.
