Abstract

Speaking is one of four language skills in learning English. In English learning, it is important for the teacher to apply an appropiate teaching technique. The teaching technique refers to subject matter objectives, sequencing, and materials. To present material to students, the teacher is required to have an appropiate teaching technique. The objectived of this study are to describe the implementation of Inside-Outside Circle technique to teach speaking of descriptive text for the eighth graders of SMP N 2 Jiwan in term 2019/2020, including the problems. The research approach which is used is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. The subject of research is the second grade A students of SMP N 2 Jiwan. The researcher used observation, questionnaire, and test. The result of this research are (1) The implementation result of observation checklist in cycle 1 obtained by students use the inside outside circle technique there is students score reached 70%. Although in questionnaire cycle 1 score obtained only reached 54,37%. And the results of the test students only get a score 50%. So, from the test of cycle 1, only 10 students passed in the test. There were only 50% students which was reached KKM. So from the result the average value obtained by students is said to be low and needs improvement. And in cycle 2, the average result of observation checklistobtained by students has increased, the score has reached 95%. While in the questionnaire cycle 2 the scores obtained reached 93,75%. And in result of the test students get an average score of 100%. So, From the result test in cycle 2, researchers had been successful in applying this learning to improve students' speaking skills and students had reached the target as expected. And suggestions for researcher are (1) Suggested to apply cooperative learning in which students may share information each other. Cooperative learning also provides the researchers kinds of teaching techniques, one of them is Inside-Outside Circle technique. Then for students are (2) suggested to practice working in group learning. The goal is to understand the subject matter by working together and sharing ideas and information. for institutions are (3) suggested to have policies relating to the change of the researcher-oriented learning into the student-oriented learning. The institutions should motivate teachers to apply teaching techniques of cooperative learning. And the last for next researcher are (4) The result of this study only focused on the implementation of Inside-Outside Circletechnique in teaching speaking of descriptive text. Future researchers are suggested to do further researchers with on different language skill.
