Abstract

ABSTRAK FAIZAH KURROTA A’YUN: Penggunaan Sempoa Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Number Sense Siswa Sekolah Dasar. Skripsi. Ponorogo: Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika, Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo, 2021. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan number sense siswa Sekolah Dasar dengan menggunakan media sempoa. Materi pada penelitian ini adalah penjumlahan dan pengurangan bilangan bulat positif 1 digit sampai dengan 3 digit. Penelitian yang dilaksanakan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian tindakan (action research). Bentuk tindakan yang diberikan berupa perlakuan khusus dalam pembelajaran dengan menggunakan sempoa. Subjek pada penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 siswa SD yang memiliki latar belakang masalah sama. Permasalahan yang dialami yaitu siswa belum mampu berhitung secara mental. Ketika melakukan penjumlahan dan pengurangan siswa masih menggunakan jari dan teknik prosedural. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes, wawancara dan observasi. Tes digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dan mengetahui perkembangan kemampuan number sense siswa. Wawancara digunakan untuk mendalami jawaban siswa yang dituliskan. Sedangkan observasi digunakan untuk mengamati aspek kinerja/aktivitas siswa, capaian komponen number sense siswa dan keberhasilan tindakan selama pembelajaran. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian meliputi LKS, lembar observasi, lembar wawancara, lembar pretest dan posttest. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model Miles and Hubermen yang terdiri dari 3 langkah yaitu reduksi data, display data, dan verifikasi/penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan sempoa mampu membantu meningkatkan kemampuan number sense siswa dengan mencapai indikator berikut: siswa memiliki pemahaman terhadap nilai tempat, siswa dapat merepresentasikan bilangan dari symbol/ grafik ataupun sebaliknya, siswa mampu menyusun bentuk numerik yang setara, siswa dapat memahami dan menerapkan sifat asosiatif dan komutatif ketika menyelesaikan opersi penjumlahan & pengurangan dan siswa dapat membuat/ menemukan strategi yang berbeda untuk menyelesaikan operasi penjumlahan & pengurangan dan siswa mampu mengenali kewajaran hasil perhitungan. Sedangkan untuk indikator, melakukan penjumlahan & pengurangan secara mental masih diperlukan latihan terus melalui pembiasaan. Thesis. Ponorogo: Mathematics Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo, 2021. This study aims to improve the number sense ability of elementary school students by using the abacus media. The material in this study is the addition and subtraction of positive integers from 1 to 3 digits. The research was carried out using a qualitative approach with the type of action research. The form of action given is in the form of special treatment in learning by using the abacus. The subjects in this study consisted of 2 elementary school students who had the same problem background. The problem experienced is that students have not been able to count mentally. When doing addition and subtraction students still use their fingers and procedural techniques. Data was collected through tests, interviews, and observations. The test is used to collect data and determine the development of students' number sense abilities. Interviews were used to explore students' written answers. While observation is used to observe aspects of student performance/activity, the achievement of the student's number sense component, and the success of actions during learning. The instruments used in the study included worksheets, observation sheets, interview sheets, pretest, and posttest sheets. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Hubermen model which consists of 3 steps, namely data reduction, data display, and verification/concluding. The results showed that the use of the abacus can help improve students' number sense ability by achieving the following indicators: students have an understanding of place value, students can represent numbers from symbols/graphs or vice versa, students can arrange numerical equivalent forms, students can understand and apply properties associative and commutative when solving addition & subtraction operations and students can make/find different strategies to solve addition & subtraction operations and students can recognize the fairness of calculation results. As for indicators, doing addition & subtraction mentally still requires continuous practice through habituation.
