Abstract

ABSTRACT Critical Analysis of Sexual Violence News in Beritajatim.com Media With Sara Mills Theory Approach June 2022 Edition Riska Nabila Miftakul Janah 18240626 This thesis is entitled Critical Analysis of Sexual Violence News on Beritajatim.com Media with a theoretical approach to Sara Mills's June 2022 edition. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of Sara Mills' discourse on sexual violence reporting in the June 2022 edition of Beritajatim.com Media. on the theory of Sara Mills to find out how the position of the subject-object and the position of the reader in a text. This research uses a critical discourse analysis method with a qualitative approach with supporting theory of Sara Mills discourse or feminism discourse. The discourse text taken in this study is a news text about sexual violence on newsjatim.com media. With the results of the study showing the news text from beritajatim.com the position of the victim is mostly as an object told by other actors. Because of the 7 news stories that become victims of sexual violence, they tend to be minors. The depiction of the victim is highlighted more than the perpetrator. The depiction of the victim is viewed from the reader's position, the victim gets a lot of sympathy and support from the reader. The author and readers do not corner the victims of sexual violence reported. The feminist discourse by Sara Mills has been applied in the text of sexual violence news in the beritajatim.com media. There is no element of marginalization or cornering of any of the actors in the news, especially those who are victims of sexual harassment who are featured in the news.
