Abstract
Key Words: Reading comprehension, Cloze strategy Reading is essentially a form of communication between writers and readers which is mediated through a written text. In SMAN 1 Badegan especially class X the students are not interested in reading lesson. They felt difficult to understand reading text and reading is bored. In teaching reading, the researcher uses cloze strategy to students’ competence in reading. Cloze strategy is a strategy where in the assessment or test some of the words are left out or blank. Statement of the problems this research are as follows 1) Does cloze strategy improve students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015? 2) How does the implementation of cloze strategy improve students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015?. The purposes of this research are 1) To know whether the cloze strategy improve students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015. 2) To know the implementation of cloze strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade of SMA N 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015. This research was classroom action research conducted at January 13rd, 2015 until January 31st, 2015. This research was conducted in two cycles and each cycles consisted of three meeting. The subject of this research was the students at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015. The researcher used three research instruments, there were observation check list, questionnaire, and test. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of cloze strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015. It was seen from the improvement of average of students’ score from 71.12 % in cycle 1 up to 91.7 in cycle 2. The score of questionnaire result in cycle 1 71.1% up to 92% in cycle 2. And the scored of students observation sheet can be seen in cycle 1 71.4% up to 100% in cycle 2. The student percentages got minimum score based on KKM 100%. It means that the students achievements were very satisfying. Finally, the researcher concluded that the result of this research showed improving students’ reading comprehension by using cloze strategy at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Badegan in the academic year of 2014/2015. Teaching reading by using cloze strategy was effective because the classroom activities became enjoyable in which the students could study comfortably. The students more interest and active in teaching learning process. Cloze strategy can be uses to the teacher or the next researcher to develop student competence and make the reading more interest.
