Abstract
ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP OF SOCIAL MEDIA USE WITH SELF HARM BEHAVIOR IN TEENAGERS At SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Jenangan Aisyi Aunnida Yahya Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo This research departs from the fact that high use of social media is related to self-harm behavior in adolescents. The development of adolescence causes changes in physical, personality and social qualities that can cause stress. In recent years, people have tended to feel freer in expressing themselves and personal information through social media, because with social media a person is freed from the everyday identities inherent in the face-to-face world, such as the barcode phenomenon that has emerged on social media. This research aims to determine the relationship between social media use and self-harm behavior in adolescents. The method used was total sampling with 47 students as respondents, using a correlation research design with a cross-sectional approach. The statistical test used in this research is the Spearman Rank Test. The research results show that all respondents (100%) have a very high intensity of social media use. The majority of respondents (42.5%) showed moderate self-harm behavior. followed by severe self-harm behavior (36.2%) and at least mild self-harm behavior (21.3%). The statistical test using Spearman Correlation produces a p-value of 0.000, which indicates the p-value is smaller than α 0.05, so there is a relationship between social media use and self-harm behavior. These findings support the hypothesis that social media use is significantly related to self-harm behavior in adolescents, especially at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Jenangan. This research emphasizes the need for further attention to the impact of social media on adolescent self-harm behavior. Future researchers can consider other variables that might influence self-harm behavior, such as family factors, social environment, and individual psychological conditions..
