Abstract

One of the behaviors that can be influenced by the social environment is smoking behavior. The habit of smoking is a trend that is not only carried out by men. There is a tendency for smoking in adolescence. This study aims to determine the relationship between the social environment and smoking behavior in adolescents.
The design of this research is correlation using cross sectional research method. The population in this study were all male students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Slogohimo with a total of 115 respondents, with a sample size of 54 respondents. Sampling using proportional random sampling technique. Technical data collection using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi Square Test with a Significance of 0.05.
The results of the study 37 respondents had a positive attitude about smoking and 17 respondents had no smoking behavior. The results of the chi-square statistical test table 2x2, dk = 1 obtained p value = 0.049 which means it is smaller than α = 0.05 then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, thus it can be said that there is a relationship between the social environment and smoking behavior in adolescents in junior high school Negeri 1 Slogohimo Wonogiri.
The results showed that most of the respondents' social environment had a positive attitude towards smoking. The researcher's suggestion to the research location is that the school is advised to continue to enforce the rules that smoking is prohibited in the school environment and to provide information about the dangers of smoking so that students are avoided from bad actions, especially smoking behavior.
