Abstract

Aging is the final period in human life where humans experience gradual physical, mental and social decline. This causes the elderly to slowly withdraw from association with the surrounding community so that it can affect social interaction. Low social interaction affects the behavior of the elderly in maintaining their health and can reduce the quality of life of the elderly. The social interactions that occur in the orphanage can vary, not all elderly can interact well with their surroundings. With the establishment of good social interaction, it will make the elderly feel at home and comfortable living with other elderly.
This study uses a quantitative research design with a correlation study. The research design used was a cross sectional approach. The number of samples is 47 respondents with purposive sampling technique. Data collection used a social interaction questionnaire and a quality of life questionnaire (WHOQoL-BREF). Data were analyzed using the Fisher’s Exact Test with a p value <0.05.
Based on the results of the analysis in this study, the p value (0.002) < α (0.05) means that there is a relationship between social interaction and quality of life in the elderly at UPT Social Services Tresna Werdha Magetan. The results of this study are expected that the elderly will increase social interaction with others so that the quality of life will improve.
